How do you get a cat to stop biting?

Our cat is 6 months old. He loves attention, He rubs his body on my leg but when i go to pick him up to pet him, he tries to bite.

Also we have a 12 year old Lab/Retriever cross and the cat wont stop trying to chew on the dogs legs. Everytime the cat tries to bite our dogs legs, our dog gets up and moves but the cat follows. Sometimes the dog barks at the cat to stop but he wont.

How do we get our cat to stop chewing and biting??

He has Loads of toys to play with but prefers to chew away.
Answers:
Don't hit the cat.our cat did the same thing when he was a kitten, the vet told us when he bites to grab him by the scruff of the neck and very firmly say NO BITING! Then push him away and do not give attention for a while. It worked.
Ur cat must think you are playing with him..hopefully, he will grow out of it.
TAP IT ON THE PAW OR NOSE ..AND SAY NO! THAT MAY HELP , JUST DONT SMACK IT HARD ..THATS WRONG
your cat is just playing around, he will grow out of it soon.
bat him over the ear. its what the mother cat does to make the babies stop misbehaving. it works for my cats. they get the message that they are doing something bad.
od course he does, he's a baby! He is just playing..I suggest you squirt him with a water bottle, he will stop. The water doesn't hrt them, don't worry
He wants to play with you. male cats do not really like you to pick them up too much. Just play with him.
If it persists everytime he bits you hit him on his nose and yell at him for doing it. He will stop eventually.
That is how i got my cat from sleeping on my bed.
My grandmother use to keep a spray bottle filled with water to shoot the cat every time he has naughty. Not saying its the best way but it sure as hell did get results. That cat would see us go for the bottle and he would take off :-))))
Buy a spray bottle. When he bites, squirt the little devil, it won't take long for it to catch on.
Spray it with a water bottle every time it does something bad. It has to be at the time the offensive act is committed. Cats hate water and this will help teach it not to do those things.
Good luck!
A thump on the nose will sometimes work. Is he biting hard? Does he break skin? If not, it's a cats way to play. Watch them in a litter, it's what they do. They bite at each other. They don't understand that our hides aren't as thick as their's, and we don't have the fur. So, if that's the case he'll outgrow it (will still bite from time to time when very playful, but not a regular occurance). Last option, he's still a kitten. Maybe he's trying to shed his baby teeth.
smack it!
break her teeth
i had a kitten that did the same thing. he only did it to me and our dog. the vet told me that he sees me as prey because he was at the age for learning to hunt. i told him "no" and tapped him on the nose. he finally stopped doing it but he still goes after the dog once in a while. hes just playing and they are real "buddies". just be patient.
I KNOW WITH MY KITTENS WHEN WE LOVE ON THEM AND START THERE PURRING, THEY WILL SOMETIMES GIVE ME LOVE BITES (AS I CALL THEM). I THINK IT IS CUTE (UNTIL IT HURTS OF COURSE) BUT I WILL TELL THEM NO AND SLAP THEM ON THE NOSE. AS WITH THE DOG I DO NOT KNOW?? MAYBE IT IS A PHASE.
Hes probaly playing with you.
