How do you know if your cats are playing vs fighting.?

I recently brought home a litter-mate of my kitten's. I don't know if they are playing or fighting. I hear a lot of meowing. They have not left each other alone. I brought her home 1 1/2 hours ago. If they are fighting, what do you recomend?
Answers:
kittens are only playing.period.all play, all the time, 24/7

if you are not seeing blood and hearing blood-curdling screams, they'll be fine.let them be.
If they're really fighting you'll hear alot of hissing and they'll actually scratch each other instead of play-swatting.
They are probably just playing. My two cats have been together for years, and when they play it sounds like they are fighting.but they are not. I suggest you buy them some toys: balls, things they can bat at, toy mice to play with. Best wishes.
You will know the difference in the yells, howls if they was a fighting. If there is no big chunks of fur flying, or blood there fine. Watch them if there seem to be a more controlled movement to them( almost robotic) you may have to break them up for a claim down.
Someone feelings got hurt, basically and somebodies mad.
Sound like they're having fun, you may need ear plugs over night, lol.
all of them are correct. they probably r just playin. if u see blood then just seperate them. cats r social creatures so just keep an eye on them. if they sleep together then leave them be.
Generally 2 cats need to work out who is boss. This involves some fighting. Also with younger cats play vs fighting is a hazy matter. Meowing is generally not fighting. (It's not to say they are making nice.) Fighting will involve a lot of high pitched growls, and howls. (the whole rrrrwwwwwoowww thing) Be sure to examine both cats for wounds. Other than that don't worry unless it goes on for more than a week. Or if one cat is getting backed into a defensive position all the time.
