How do you get a kitten to get along with a cat?

the 6 month old kitten is wants to play while the cat dosn't.
Answers:
When you bring the new animal into the house, keep it in a room with the door shut for a couple days and let the other cat smell it under the door to get used to it. Some older cats will never socialize with other cats, just not in their nature. Try to play with the kitten yourself to wear it out a little bit, or try dangling yarn or something for both of them at the same time to get them involved with each other. Older cats just aren't going to play as much. One toy my older cats like still is a round scratch pad that has a track on the outside that a ball spins around in. You put catnip on the scratch pad to attract them to it. You can get this at walmart or k-mart. Petsmart type stores have it but it's more expensive. Something like this might get them to play together too.
Give them time to adapt to each other. Sometimes it takes a while. At work we have an 8 year old cat who has been alone here all it's life. We just brought in a young cat and it took about a month for the transition to work. Now they are good friends. Patience.
good luck
time and patience.it will happen, honest..you will have to play with her
Well dont you dare bring those animals together coz de cat might eat up de kitten.
cats have a thing called a pecking order. Give it a bit of time and patience. the cats may not ever be friends but they will learn to tolerate each other. It just takes a bit of time.
it takes time for a new pet to fit into the family and the other pets.the old pet needs time to get to know the new pet it can take days or a month or two.
Give them time. Also, have you had the kitten spayed or neutered? If not have that done and the kitten will calm down.
I thought my two cats, a kitten and an older cat weren't getting along but I began to see signs that alot of activity was taken place while I slept.
Now they both sleep all day and interact at night.
ewww, that's tough.my two girls were introduced while they were just a few months apart, one of them is going to be dominant..hence the hissing and spitting. Try playing with things that the older cat likes to play with, feathers on a string, drag it around the house until you get them excited..sometimes, nothing works, you'll just have to let them figure out who's boss..
I know what you mean. we have 2 adult female cats (sisters) and we got a 9 week old kitten a couple of weeks ago. It was a nightmare at first as neither cats liked the kitten but one is now fine with her while the other is still a bit unsure.

It just takes time. they will get used to her eventually. (I hope) !
time my friend the older cat will be ready only when he/she wants to
this is something that the cats need to work out
the older cat has first at all and will teach the kitten that it is that way
so just them be
i have got 5 cats did have 6 but one died the other day but we had a girl cat and then got a boy and at first they didn't get on but then all of a sudden they were perfect together and ended up with kittens know the boy cat has died and his kittens and the mother is depressed. so the cat will love the kitten in the end don't worry
I got a kitten when my first cat was about a year old. At first she wasn't interested in playing with the new kitten, but after a while she worked out that a little company was quite a good idea. You can't make them play with each other but as long as they get along and aren't tearing lumps out of each other, I wouldn't worry too much about it. In time they'll work out a pecking order and settle down together.
