Say you just got a baby kitten, how long should you continue to give it milk? Since the mother is no longer there to feed it.

You don't. Hopefully the kitten is at least 6 weeks old, because that's how long it should stay with it's mom. After that you should be able to give it regular kitten food. Maybe start with the soft moist stuff before moving to the dry hard cat food.

By no means give it cows milk. They are lactose intolerant! You can find cat milk substitute at Walmart. After shes weaned from mom you can probably cut it out of her diet and she'll get all the nutrition she needs from a good quality kitten food.
Regular milk is not good for cats. They sell **'s ( cat ) milk at pet shops or you can buy it from your vet. If she is eating regular cat food she doesn't need any thing else. Also how old is the kitten?
Only about the first month or so they get sick if you go over that time period, and dont let it drink all that much at a time they get sick from that also.
I would mix a little warm milk and a little warm water to feed him. Once in a while take a piece of bread with some milk on it so it is softer and try feeding it to him. Once he starts eating it, start feeding him bread with milk on it for a little while and then test him the same way with regular cat food. He will eventually start trying it and eating it. This is what I did when I had a kitten and my kitten was only a few days old and grew up strong and healthy, and yes, I did this with regular cow milk.
8 weeks max 10 if it is underweight. do not give it cow's milk go to the nearest Petco or pet store or vet and get some kitten formula. There are enzymes in the cow milk that will cause diarrhea the kitten formula are also specially made with higher content of fat (unless you live on a farm and can get fresh from the cow milk) then the formula is better. Take them to your vet and have them checked out to make sure there is nothing wrong with them. Sometimes the mother cat stops feeding the babies because they are not healthy (cruel but way of survival of the fittest in the animal world) if she stopped feeding them after 8 weeks it's simply because it is time for them to move on to cat food.

First off, never give a kitten plain milk from the grocery store. There is a special kitten formula that can be purchased most places where pet care products are sold. Around 5-6 weeks, by 8 weeks they should be eating wet/dry cat food, hopefully.
Kittens are usually weaned around 6 weeks of age, if it is younger than this it should be bottle fed with KMR (kitten milk replacement formula) that you can get at a pet store. Once cats are weaned from mom, they never need milk.
by 5 weeks you can take the kitten off milk as long as he/she is eating dry food by then.
