Not for long, if you use Frontline. Funny, you would ask this one, because my two cats, old Johann and Little Scooter, both needed a treatment today. I think it's about three or four weeks, but during that time each one will lay up to 5 million eggs in your home. So you need to treat them straight away. If you 've only just noticed it, treating all the cats and dogs in the household with a spot on treatment of something like Stronghold, (selemectin), which is a prescription you can get from your vet, should do the trick. This will protect your pet against roundworm as well as fleas, and each application lasts for a month. It is secreted over the coat and the fleas ingest it and diet within 24 hours. The pooh they pass before death then drops off into the home and the eggs and larvae feed on it and they will die too. Therefore it has an effect not only on the pet, but also on the home as well.

If it is a really bad infestation, you will need to get a spray for the house as well, something like RIP or Nuvan Staykill. You will need to vacuum the house vigorously and turn up the central heating first before spraying, to ensure that all the pupae hatch out into adult fleas - and you will then have better chance of killing them.

Remember, only 5% of a flea problem is on the pet - the other 95% are in the home in eggs, larvae and pupae that we can't see.

They can live indefinatley in a nice warm environment. Doemstic cats come indoors so the fleas jump off and imbed themsleves in your home. Usually carpet, but I've had them on the floor. They jump all over you and yes they can bite you. You're SUPPOSED to de- flea the cat every 6 weeks year round for an outdoor cat. But I don't. I just treat mine when they look like they have fleas. Which is usually during the summer.

But they will live and repoduce until you get some front line top spot or advantage from your vet or online.
