How long can a cat go without eating?

My cat hasn't been eating for 14 days, only drinks water. Two vets have seen her and they say there is nothing wrong with her, just wait. Any experience on this?
Answers:
First, if your cat is an outside cat there may be another family around there providing food, or your cat has found a source of food in the wild. These are answers already given. I doubt if the vets are not taking it seriously, but if your cat is not losing weight then he/she is getting food somehow. Cats usually like smelly things like liver sausage--try that. Also, check what you are feeding the cat and make certain it isn't disappearing or that your cat isn't sneaking food from another pet. Also, if you have a brother or sister they could be feeding her table scraps. If she isn't losing weight then that is the key thing. One more thing.you said your cat is drinking water: is she drinking a LOT of water or some now and then? If she is drinking all the time she may be diabetic. Also, check inside her mouth to see if there is a real bad tooth or something stuck inside there. I see nothing wrong with taking her to a third vet, either. Good luck.
I would phone as many vets as possible and ask advice, if it were my cat id feel lilke the vets aren't taking it seriously. As long as she is drinking she should be ok for a while, but not too long. There are plenty of websites that can give you free advice, try the pet professor, and ask the expert.
is it an indoor cat, or maybe you have a mouse problem he knows about and you dont. or is eating while your sleeping, i'm sure you dont watch it 24/7
well..my cat was sick..and she stayed without eating for like a week , then she started eating lil bit..
dunno maybe u should try to feed her put food in her mouth maybe she'll throw it at first.but keep doing that she will eat..
i did that.
hope she will get well soon :)
Your cat could be feeling uneasy or depressed. Cats will refuse to eat and starve themselves to death, not like a dog that wille at anything. Has anything in your life changed recenty, have you moved?
If you cat wanders the neighbourhood then you can guarantee that she is either catching food or dining out at someone elses expense! If she is an indoor cat I would be very worried!!
to answer your question cats can go no more then 48 hours without food once 48 hours come along it puts ur cat at risk for liver plms BUTT if all the vets have been telling he is ok I can pretty much promise you he is finding food else where. Vets wouldnt lie abt a cat being heathly they do not benifit from that. Cats are smarter than you think. If he hasnt had anything to eat in 14 days u would see him getting skinner physically if he looks the same dont worry abt it. Try tuna or wet canned food also. Good Luck!
my cat is anarecsic
My cat hasnt been eating the pass couple days either, but she was attacked by something like a raccoon and alls she wants to do is sleep and she wont drink either. I dont know whats wrong with her(my cat). But if the vets are telling you your cats fine then she must be. If your cat is an outdoor cat then she is probably getting food from someone else or she is catching mice and eating that and if she is an indoor cat maybe she is catching mice in your house too.
im so sorry to hear this mine did that last week he had been poisoned went without food for six days and only drank water. sadly he died on sat at the vets where they had put him on a drip of glucose. when i find out who did it i am gonna kill them.
Myabe he is born with the same food.

I fed my Fluke Chicken and he cant get enough of it, try varying the food. Give him/her tuna every week.

Get a second opinion from another vet
if it were my decision it'd be all life long!
We lost one of our Tabby's for well over two weeks when we was out on our boat in Nottingham, now we know she'd gone walk about and was locked in someones garage they had gone away on holiday, after nearly three weeks she came back to our boat, only half her size, but she was ok.
I really wish I knew the answer to your problem
to help you,its really up setting I know.
good luck with her.
she MUST be eating otherwise she would be skeletal or dead by now.
just because you don't see your cat eating don't presume it is going hungry. cats are cunning animals they often fend for themselves. chances are kitty is doing this or being fed some were else. a cat like any animal will not go hungry unless their was something seriously wrong with it. listen to what your vet has told you and try to relax, but watch out for any signes of deterioration in your kitty.
